I have a 20 ha property that consists of 4 ha forestry and the rest is mostly rainforest and a house.
Does forestry still have to be engaged in for the purpose of profit on a continuous or repetitive basis (whether or not a profit is actually made)? The trees on the property still have about 12 years before they will be ready for harvesting. The owners also have authorisation for a timber plantation from Dept of Natural Resources.
      Your help would be appreciated.

        Hi Adele

Sorry I’m not much help because we have a minimum area of 100ha for forestry however if they have a private forest approval from the State Government and you feel that 4ha is enough area to allow a business then they might pass the test for farmland. The 12 years before harvesting can occur shouldn’t be an issue as there are several legal cases that allow this to happen.

        Cheers

        Neil
