Hello Everyone

Quick question on changes of name and how your Council handles them.

Do you update your Council Property and Rating records if a Marriage Certificate or Change of Company Name is received?

Or does your Council only accept the change of name if it comes through as an amendment from Land Registry Service?

Reason for asking is that I have become aware that the Valuer-General will only update ownership details if an amendment is registered and comes through from Land Registry Services.

Wondering whether we should adopt a similar approach. Interested in hearing everyone’s thoughts on this particular process.

Hey Trevor, Shoalhaven does not update on marriage cert or change of name cert – referring the customer to official channels to change their name on title.

Hey Trev,
Wollongong will buck the trend here (but i dont agree with it).
Our NAR team will update a rate notice based on a marriage certificate or change of name, if im asked i always respond that our rate records need to match whats held on title and refer them to update with titles office and LRS etc, but thats not our Council position.
Due to how risk adverse in the privacy space we are now, we dont even keep a copy of the marriage certificate or death certificate in the case of changing someone to estate of the late. The customer service officer cites the certificate and we action.
