      Hi all

ESFR Classification Manual speaks of the ‘specified use’ of Boarding House at 2.5.5 on page 14.

It says: “Boarding houses are a type of affordable housing that must be managed by registered community housing providers in perpetuity.”

I had little to do with boarding houses for a few years. Is this “must be managed by a CHP” only for new boarding houses approved under State Environmental Planning Policy (Housing) 2021? As I’m thinking there would be plenty of Boarding Houses around that are not managed by community housing providers (unless a big chance occurred to boarding house management over the past few years?).

For the purpose of ESFR Classification, boarding house specified use, all Boarding Houses are to be included, not just those approved recently under the 2021 SEPP? i.e. all those at least shown on the NSW Fair Trading Register for your LGA?

        Hi Cherie

Good pick-up, I don’t know how we missed this but can assure you it is not the intention.

I have reached out to Revenue NSW to make an amendment.

All boarding houses, no matter who the owner operator will need to be identifies under the specified use.

        Regards,
        Andrew

Great, thanks for the confirmation Andrew.
And to you and other NSWRPs who have had input in getting us the most workable classification logic and system guidance – thank you very much!

The Manual has been updated on the Revenue NSW SharePoint site and also in this forum chat.

Thanks Cherie for pointing this out and appreciate your kind words.

Here is the updated manual: Preliminary Land Classification Manual Oct 2024 (1)

            Regards,
            Andrew
