      HI there

We have been requested by our NAR section to ask other Councils the following questions:

      1. Do you collect and store a date of birth information for ratepayers?

      2. How did you gather this information?

      3. Do you use this information to verify the ratepayer on the phone?

      4. What other methods do you use to confirm their identity?

      5. Have you had any issues with the collection and/or storage of this information?

Any information would be greatly appreciated

      Thank you

            Hi Linda
Our change of address form has a space for date of birth. It’s optional as to whether or not they fill it in. I don’t use it to verify a ratepayer. We haven’t had any issues with collection or storage of this information.

              Hi Linda –
              1. Our Call Centre collects the DOB and mobile # for any phone enquirer.

              2. By phone at point of enquiry.

              3. We do – but our Call Centre only commenced 14 months ago so we are steadily building the database.

              4. We use – middle name, current/previous postal address, ownership detail

              5. No real issues- the supply of DOB and mobile # by ratepayer is not mandatory but is encouraged as it assists both the ratepayer and Council.

              Hope this helps.

Hi Linda, we do not store the DOB.
If the customer is at the front counter we confirm ID by drivers licence etc.
Over the phone is confirming the name/s on the rate notice and postal address.
