The 2020 Annual Conference will be going ahead.

The following has been issued by the Australian Government.

Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) coronavirus (COVID-19) statement on 8 March 2020

Recommendations by the AHPPC with regard to public events:

“As of 8th March 2020, the AHPPC advises that the risk to the general Australian population from COVID-19 is low “

“At this time the AHPPC consider that public events should proceed “

“Australia does not have evidence of significant transmission currently, therefore cancellation of public gatherings – at this time – would not be proportionate nor particularly effective “

Would you be going to work?

If you were not going to the conference would you still go to work? If the answer is yes then you are safe to attend the 2020 conference.

      What are the symptoms?

      • Fever (>38 °C)
      • Sore throat, cough or shortness of breath
      • In severe cases pneumonia (otherwise called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome)
      • Other rare symptoms: fatigue, headache, diarrhoea

Note that in over 80% of cases symptoms are mild. Source: NSW Health – Sydney Local Health District

What to do if you show symptoms?

      • Stay at home and isolate yourself from other people in home until you are well or have been cleared of the virus
      • Call your doctor and follow their instructions prior to attending a clinic
      • Wear a facemask
      • Wash your hands frequently

We have been advised by the hotels and Entertainment Centre that extra cleaning precautions are being undertaken to ensure regularly touched surfaces are appropriately cleaned more frequently.

      Regards,
      Andrew

At this stage we are working through the logistics and acting on the Federal and State Governments leading medical advice which currently allows for groups under 500 to proceed.

At this stage the conference is still going ahead.

If the advice changes we will do our best to provide information to all delegates as soon as it is possible.

Thank you for your patience and support.

          Regards,
          Andrew
