Does any Council exempt their Golf Courses from Rates or provide a community donation?

Penrith City Council charges the general business rate for golf courses. No donation is given either.

also, we do exempt them from the Stormwater Levy where they are situated in rural areas (as required) but for the golf courses that are in urban zones, we only charge them a stormwater levy for the area covered by the clubhouse and carpark only.

Camden charges Business rates to all Golf Courses in the LGA and does not give any discounts.

Blacktown charges business rates on it’s golf courses and doesn’t provide any donations.

Hi Jeannette,
Randwick has 5 golf courses. 4 on Crown land and 1 on private freehold. They are all rated with no community grants. One of these had been sleeping as non-rateable forever – we pulled it our and rated it about 8 years ago. They thought they should be non-rateable because they were on Crown land and the course had to allow public access. They took us to court but they ended up discontinuing proceedings. They now pay.

We had the same issue as Cherie – on Crown land. We won – they shut down….
