I presently have a ratepayer logging onto our payment gateway each evening and making approx. 100 – 1 cent payments each night. This cost Council 20 cents for each transaction. therefore for each $1 they pay it costs us $20.00.He is doing this to to win a promotion being offered by his banking institution.

Do other councils impose a minimum payment on their on line payments?
Does anyone have a policy around malicious use of payment gateways?
do other councils absorb the cost of all payment methods, as we do? or do you pass some or all of them onto the ratepayer? I believe a number of Councils pass on credit card charges Queanbeyan absorbs them all at present.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated

        Hi Karen

Ku-ring-gai imposes a minimum of $20.00 for their online payments. In line with that we do not issue notices for under $20.00.

We absorb the costs of all our payments methods but pass on a credit card surcharge.

We do not have a policy for mailicous use of our payment gateways.

Karen, you need to ring your bank / gateway provider and get a minimum payment put on TODAY. Minimum payment amounts are very common and generally accepted practice.

Penrith has no policy on malicious use of payment gateways. We do surcharge credit card payments.
