Hi Everyone,
Just wondering would you rate a Men’s Shed charity who purchase land non rateable.
They have provided their Constitution or Memorandums of Association and have a charity tax exemption and are registered with the Australia Charities & Not-for-profit Commission but how can they show they are a public charity & that the purpose to which they use the land is of public benefit if they are solely for men as listed below in their constitution –
Objects
2) The objects of the Shed are to advance the health and well-being of our members by providing a safe and happy environment where skilled and unskilled men can, in the company of other men,
a. Pursue hobbies. pastimes and interests
b. Learn new skills, practice and pass on old skills
c. Learn about their own and other men’s health and well-being
d. By their efforts, contribute to their families, their friends, the Shed and their community
e. Mentor younger men
It is a tough one and no other Men’s shed in our LGA own the land they use for their organisation.
Many Thanks,
Dani
