Does your Council provide optional domestic waste services under section 496? We are having problems with an area where some of the properties that are located in a small rural subdivision want a domestic waste service but the other ratepayers do not want a service at all. A few years ago Council adopted to allowing some of the ratepayers have a DW service and the other ratepayers were exempt. Needless to say management took no notice of my objection to this practice.

Hi Jeanette,

Our Farmland assessments have optional garbage service collection. Though if they choose to have a general waste they must also have a recycling bin as well. We have some farmland areas where the collection truck cannot access so they don’t have the option for a service at all. Some have to take their bins to the main road for collection. Before we agree to add a new service, we make sure that it is in an area where the truck can service or is currently (so he isn’t driving 10km just for one pick up for instance). We don’t have any issues with this optional service though.
