I have a situation I haven’t encountered before and would appreciate your insights:
A living property owner is transferring the property to someone else but is retaining a life tenancy.
The owner is eligible for a pensioner rebate and will continue to reside in the property under the life tenancy.
From my research and experience, councils usually grant a rebate only when the life tenancy arises from a deceased estate, not where a living owner transfers title but retains a life interest.
Has anyone granted a pensioner rebate in this type of scenario? How was it evidenced and treated for rebate purposes?
Additionally, I’m interested in reviewing other councils’ pensioner rebate policies as I’m updating the Lake Mac Pensioner Policy. If you can share a copy or link, that would be greatly appreciated.
