      Hello RPs,
Council has received a request from the Australian Government Solicitor acting on behalf of Indigenous Business Australia for details of any default by a property owner in the payment of rates. Out of concern for privacy provisions, my manager contacted the IPC to enquire whether the AGS is authorised to receive this info, but they declined to comment and told him that Council should decide whether to provide the information. I phoned a paralegal at AGS who, when I asked under what provisions/authority they request this information, simply said they would take us off the list of Councils who are “willing” to supply the information. I then suggested we write to the AGS pointing them to Section 603 of the LGA. Is that the correct way to go? What do you do with these requests? I also have another question about Section 603 certs which I will post separately. Many thanks in anticipation. Ann

        Hi Ann,
I agree with the way you and your council have jandles this matter. If they want to know the balance of a rates account they can apply for a section 603 certificate.

        Dennis
