Just wondering what other Councils do with regard to requests for neighbour information for the purpose of organising dividing fences.

I thought there was something in the Dividing Fences Act, but can’t find it.

At Penrith we ask for a stat dec to be completed by the requestor and then either telephone or email the required information back to them.

Snowy Monaro Regional Council processes requests for property owner information for fencing purposes as an informal GIPPA request. The processing officer checks via mapping (Exponaire) that the properties do adjoin. In the reply to the requestor, a statement is included regarding the purpose for which the information is supplied. (E.g ‘This information is supplied for the purpose of contacting your adjoining owner in respect of maintenance of your mutual boundary fence’ or along those lines.)
