Looking a complete overhaul of recovery processes and looking for any councils that might have invoked Section 605 and recovering reasonable costs in tracing liable persons?

If so could you please advise how ‘reasonable costs’ had been calculated.

      Thank you.
      Regards,

      Andrew

        Hi Andrew,

We on-charge skip trace fees under Sec 605 that our debt management agent charge Council, when we are unable to contact the ratepayer. I think “reasonable” might be in the eye of the beholder, but if it’s the fee from a professional provider, I’d call it reasonable.

        Cheers

Hi Ian, I agree ‘reasonable’ is very much subjective and what you or I consider reasonable may not be the same as some of our ratepayers.

            Hi Andrew,

In our experience, reasonable cost relate to the amount of work involved in locating the debtor. Some debtors are found easier than others and outside search engines (i.e., ASIC search etc.) are required. We generally find that the cost of a skip trace will be between $250 – $450, and we only charge for a successful outcome.
Also, if you are having trouble locating a debtor we are more than happy to offer you one free (no strings attached) Skip Trace!

            Thanks,
