There will be a Board Motion on the Categorisation of Land for Rating Purpose (pg 89 of the Business Paper). The Motion reads:
That the NSW Government acts swiftly to clarify the statutory and regulatory rating provisions
regarding land categorisation, including a definition of vacant land, land under development, and
the time available for ratepayers to seek a review of the rating category. Specifically, the provisions need to be amended to:
• Clearly establish that the date of conversion to “residential” should be from the date of
occupation for that purpose.
• Allow councils to apply a business rate to hotels containing serviced apartments that provide
tourist accommodation on a commercial basis.
Please provide advice to your Senior Executive and Councillors about this Board Motion so that those attending the conference next week can cast an informed vote on the motion.
