John Towers was pivotal supporting council rates staff in being recognised as a vital sector within Local Government. He became the President of the Revenue Professionals in 2001 and was made a life member in 2009. He organised 16 Conferences that were full of vital content for Revenue people. He was relentless working tirelessly to improve each Conference while keeping the price at acceptable levels. The Conference Bags were always full of useful stuff handpicked by John. The guest speakers have been a who’s who of famous people including Paul Roos, Wayne Bennett, Peter Fitzsimmons and Kerry O’Keefe to name a few. The Dinners are a highlight of the Conference but John was never seen dancing. John organised training for Rates Staff with the late Richard Whitmore and the first session was held in Dubbo in 2004.Training has been a vital part of John’s vision for revenue people and will continue to be carried on. John started relationships with our Interstate Councils and their revenue staff and this has a fantastic journey and travelled to New Zealand for two of their conferences.
