Don’t know if it will or won’t happen (perhaps only CP knows) but if it does get repealed, the cost of providing Domestic Waste services will reduce.

Having already set and levied the DWM charges for 2014-15 should we then recalculate and relevy a reduced charge?

Or do we leave well enough alone and apply any surplus income in offset against future year’s changes/costs?
(I know what I want to do!!)

        Darryl,
You can only set a charge on what you know at a point in time…….and what you don’t know might not even happen!
Unless it is regulated post levy, I think any reduction in DWM costs can be reflected next year

          Hi All,
Now that we know the Carbon Tax has been repealed. What is everyone else doing in regards to the cost adjustment? Are you amending the fee this year and applying a credit or are you reflecting it next year?

Our Council has resolved to reduce 2014-15 annual waste charges by an amount equivalent to the carbon price that had been factored into the original charge calculation ($22 per 140 litre waste service).
I have spoken with Helen Pearce at OLG who indicated they were formulating advice for Councils and without pre-empting that advice or putting Helen on the spot it is likely that OLG will suggest council’s should pass on the savings this year.

Whilst we are still awaiting advice/comment from OLG regrading this issue I have found some comment on the SA LGA website regarding it:

In many instances Councils will not be aware of the extent of any impact of the repeal of the carbon price and hence will not be able to account separately for the impact. In cases where Councils are made aware of the impact, the LGA would suggest that information be reflected in public consultation on the 2015/16 draft annual business plan.

Whilst we are talking different states & legislation I think the comment about reflecting it in 2015/16 budget is pertinent.
