Like many of you, we have for a few years now included a waste voucher with our rates notices (one per notice). The voucher we used was a double sided A4 page considered as an insert.

I would like to know who has used a tear off design where the tear off section is in addition to the A4 page. So once the voucher is removed, the ratepayer still has a A4 size rates notice.

How do you find this works? rather than a separate voucher to remove all of the claims they didn’t receive one with their rates notices… and what designs have you used?

      My email address is lgarner@begavalley.nsw.gov.au

      Many thanks,
      Lisa

        Hi Lisa
I can recall many years ago, back in the days when we used the 1919 Local Government Act, designing and sending out a notice that combined a rate notice and 3 instalment notices that were perforated and detachable.

This was in the days before we had to issue rate instalment reminders and most councils just issued the one account at the start of January each year. From memory it worked very well and was received positively by ratepayer’s in the community.

I can’t recall the overall size of the notice but I think it may have been A3 size so it could be folded and fitted into the envelope easily. I don’t recall there being any problems with the printing or folding and I think it may have been Sema (Security Mail as they were then called) doing the job for us.

You could probably adapt a similar idea for your waste vouchers.

        Hope this helps.

        Cheers
        Trevor

Hi Lisa, we had a similar issue with Parking Permits when I was at Manly. We ended up making them an attachment to the bottom of the rate notice about the size of a bank deposit slip & then included an insert with further information. Our mailing house (SEMA) was able to fold the notice into the usual size with one extra fold without any issues.
          Thanks,
          Simone

            Hi Lisa,

That was going to be my suggestion, talk to the Northern Beaches Councils that issue Beach Parking stickers etc. I’m sure they have tried a multitude of ways to achieve their result over the years.

              Hi Lisa

With the annual notice we issue an A4 size sheet with blurb from the waste department that goes down about 3/4 of the page and then perforates into 2 individual vouchers. Each tip voucher has a unique number and a barcode to identify the property it relates to. When they use the vouchers at the tip the barcodes are recorded and then if someone comes in (and they often do) and says they didn’t receive them the girls in waste just do a simple check. If they are adamant that they didn’t receive their vouchers then the original vouchers are cancelled and new ones issued. Saves a lot of arguments.
