Hi Michael, Do you happen to know how that legal opinion circumvented the Valuation of Land Act Part 5 Item 62?

Hi Danielle, do you mean stand pipes? If so, I suggest you contact Debbie Constance here at Cooma. Our standpipe management is outsourced to AvData.

Danielle, which Authority version are you on? I can help with Auth 6.10 & Auth 7.1.

Hi Jeanette, firstly, no rates are refundable as the ordinary land rates are based on the rateable value issued by the Valuer General, irrelevant of any thing else. (Apart from a Valuation Objection or Re-Ascertainment.) Secondly, the decision regarding what service charges should apply, be refunded etc should be made buy the relevant department for each service. Your Council will have (or should have) policies in regard to these matters which will guide their decisions, which they should then convey to you, preferably in writing (even via email) so that it can be recorded against the assessment should any further queries arise. Don’t let the other departments pass the buck to you to make the decision – unless part of your Job description includes being employed by those departments. Good luck.

We don’t use titles here at SMRC. We have a lot of people from international backgrounds, so often we can’t tell gender by their name. So Council procedure is to use the first name, middle initial (if any) & then the surname.

Where can we find a membership renewal form? I know I received a message on my personal phone about the conference, but I can’t print that off. I’ve been away on leave too, so I won’t be able to get it back by 31 December. Thanks.

Whilst I don’t know what he’s talking about, and appreciate Andrew & Dave contacting OLG, I would point out that it’s not COUNCIL’S legislation but OLG’s. It makes no difference what the age is; I’ve had a couple of relatively young applicants(as in around early 40’s) with TPI embossed cards, so how is age a factor?

Daryl, did you get any response to this? I haven’t used Practical for a few years, but it’s a pretty easy system to use.

Hi Wendy, our Council had Morrison Low assist with a review for rates harmonisation. They did an assessment of ability to pay, which was quite an eye opener. They used such things as the Index of Relative Socio-Economic Disadvantage & Index of Relative Socio-Economic Advantage & Disadvantage. They identified things like Vulnerable Groups or Individuals, based on Pensioners, Housing Stress, Trends in Cost of Living. All these things are economic factors, I guess. I hope that helps a little

Thanks Simone – that’s my understanding as well. I appreciate that for some of our out of town properties, access may not be available & that makes the service unavailable. For the majority of our properties we charge the DWM service much the same as Wollondilly. It’s just this one special ‘privileged’ route that bothers me. I don’t see how Council can offer an ‘Opt In’ service to a single select route & nowhere else. My own answers to my questions are 1. There are no such circumstances; & 2. There is no justification. However, I thought I should see if anyone else had any different understanding or legal precedent/knowledge that would justify our Waste depts. decisions. I would like to collate all the feedback/ information to assist in discussions to resolve this anomaly.

Did these go out? My supervisor is looking for the information & I can’t find it.

Snowy Monaro Regional Council processes requests for property owner information for fencing purposes as an informal GIPPA request. The processing officer checks via mapping (Exponaire) that the properties do adjoin. In the reply to the requestor, a statement is included regarding the purpose for which the information is supplied. (E.g ‘This information is supplied for the purpose of contacting your adjoining owner in respect of maintenance of your mutual boundary fence’ or along those lines.)
